The Kade Consultancy
The Kade Consultancy offers SpLD assessments, reports and neurodiversity inclusion training in the workplace and is the sister brand of The Educational Guidance Service, which provides SpLD assessments for students.
How an SpLD can affect your ability to work
Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLDs), such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia and Dysgraphia can impact a person’s experience of work in various ways. This could include the ability to communicate, focus on tasks, process information or manage a workload.
The Kade Consultancy can provide assessments which can help people to understand why they are facing challenges, reducing frustration and anxiety, and support people on their way to achieving their goals.
Why should you consider an assessment?
To know what support is right for a person, it’s important to understand how an SpLD affects that individual. With over 20 years of experience, our expert psychologists can provide a detailed evaluation of a person’s strengths and weaknesses and guide the individual and the employer towards the support required.
If an assessment shows an individual does not have an SpLD our assessors will still make recommendations based on the individual’s performance during the assessment. For example, if the assessment shows the individual has strengths in verbal communication, the psychologist may suggest presentations would be a good way for them to present their work rather than written reports.
The assessment procedure
The assessment will be conducted either in a face-to-face setting or remotely and will take approximately 2.5 – 3 hours. The assessment is likely to include;
- Interview: This is an in-depth (1 hour) and informal discussion designed to help our psychologist get to know the individual, their past experience and their current situation. This can highlight any difficulties the individual may be experiencing in the workplace. Together, they will go through the individual’s education and career history, as well as understanding the current workplace environment. This provides the psychologist with a complete picture of context from the past and present, that will inform a basis of understanding of the individual’s strengths and challenges.
- Memory and verbal tasks: Performance on a range of tasks, which are designed to be challenging, enable the psychologist to consider the individual’s strengths and weaknesses in practice. This can highlight better ways of working and learning.
- Literacy tasks: Reading, writing and spelling abilities are reviewed in order to gain an understanding of the individual’s strengths and weaknesses. This can also inform any recommendations for improved ways of working and learning in these areas.
How much will it cost?
The price for a diagnostic assessment starts from £424.00. Please note this price may vary subject to requirement.
The Report
The report will take approximately 5 – 6 weeks to be completed and sent out. This report enables an individual or an employer to consider any reasonable adjustments made by the psychologist. The adjustments may include:
- Ensuring their employee or the person they nominated to see the report is aware of the individual’s difficulties.
- Specialist support to help develop strategies to overcome difficulties.
- Considerations such as flexible working hours and written instructions for tasks.
- Assistive Technology such as organisational software, speech-to-text software, and mind-mapping tools.
Coaching
We offer one-to-one coaching to develop skills and encourage behavioural change. At the heart of our coaching is the recognition and maximisation of the skills that the individual has demonstrated. This can be particularly helpful where there is a new diagnosis and also to address any concerns with work. Visit our dedicated coaching page to find out more.
Access to Work
Access to Work (ATW) is government funding intended to cover the extra costs of having a disability or long-term condition. If you or someone in your team has been identified with a SpLD, once you have received the completed diagnostic report, an application for Access to Work can be made. For more information about what it covers and who is eligible, please follow the link to the Government website here.
